The National Monuments Service's description

Timoney (1984, 323-4, no. 13) describes this as follows: ‘The total diameter of this badly mutilated barrow is 19.30 m. The central area is 13m in diameter. An irregular bank, varying in width between 2.50m and 4m and reaching 60cm in height surrounds an irregular depression, averaging 7m in diameter. There is a "U"-bottomed fosse, 3m in width and 60cm deep around the central area. On the west side of the monument there is evidence of an enclosing bank for about 10m of the circuit. It averages 2.40m wide and is at most 50cm high. This monument lies on flat ground between nos 27, 48 and 51. It is marked on the current, 1940, Ordnance Survey map as "Stone Circle, site of" but not at all on the original, 1837, map. It has not been referred to by any previous writer. The map designation was probably due to its location among the Carrowmore tombs, many of which are marked as "Stone Circle" on the maps, rather than to any proper archaeological reasons. However classification is not possible due to its disturbed nature. Perhaps it was a ring-barrow but with only the short length of bank on the west side surviving or a bowl-barrow of the ditched variety. Burenhult (1980:1, 93) lists this as Structure 8, Carrowmore.’
