The National Monuments Service's description
The SMR file identifies a cross-slab on the outer cairn, but no earlier authority describes a crossslab in this position and none was found in association with the cairn when it was archaeologically excavated in 1997 (O’Sullivan & James 1998). The field report by Markus Casey in 1994 (SMR file) describes a ‘plain’ cross-slab, but this was probably a blank stone placed on the cairn in modern times.
