Clochan

This clochan is built into a raised terraced area in the NW quadrant of an ecclesiastical enclosure (SL011-011001-), known as ‘The Cashel’. It abuts the E side of a clochan, named Torybrennel (SL001001003-).
This small cell is conjoined to the south face of the much larger Toorybrenell, but there is no direct access between them. It forms part of the terraced area. Internally, it is oblong on plan, with an east/west axis, rounded angles to the walls at the west end and square angles at the east end. The entrance is from the north, via a narrow passage running from the main passage through the terrace. An edge-set slab forms a sill stone; a large orthostat forms the right-hand door jamb (entering). The walls are of drystone rubble and small slabs, well coursed to form vertical faces, though corbelled towards the roof, which is closed by large flat slabs. The internal dimensions are 1.7 m east/west by 1.1 m north/south; the roof slabs are 1.4 m over the floor. The doorway is less than 1 m high and 0.5 m wide.
