The National Monuments Service's description

This site was located in the industrial peatlands of Cloonshannagh Bog. It was first recorded in the 2013 Reassessment Peatland Survey as a peatland structure, consisting of a single short length of heavy roundwood 0.11m in diameter exposed in the drain face 0.5m below the field surface. The element was very dried out, measured 0.51m in length and had been worked to a flat faceted, wedge point at its N end. The surrounding peat was well humified Sphagnum peat with occasional Phragmites, Calluna and Eriophorum inclusions (Whitaker 2014).

The site was fully sampled during the course of the 2013 survey, for wood species identification and dating. In 2015, the find spot was relocated using GPS (licence 15E0196): however, no additional remains were located. The element sampled in 2013 was identified as alder, and dated to cal. 380–186 BC (Whitaker 2018).
