Closely associated with a ring-ditch (RO022-170001-) and an enclosure (RO022-170----) and discovered through archaeological excavation in conjunction with the ‘N5 Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project’. Three pits were found; two only 0.4m apart. The larger of the two was sub-rectangular (L 2.32m; Wth 1.95m; D 0.58m) and its fills included greyish black silty clay with moderate amounts of charcoal, small pebbles and large sub-angular stones. Its upper fill also contained a glass bead.
The smaller pit was circular (diam. 0.44m) and shallower (D 0.18m) and contained a single fill of dark-grey to black clay.
A third, shallow (D 0.2m) sub-oval pit (L 0.64m; Wth 0.53m) had a fill of mid-yellowish brown silty clay containing large sub-angular pebbles overlain by an upper fill of dark brown silty sandy clay containing occasional flecks of charcoal. A shallow (D 0.12m) posthole was also discovered; circular (diam. 0.26m) but step-sided, and contained a single fill of dark greyish brown silty clay. The features were fully excavated and recorded.
Also associated and excavated were a ring-ditch (RO022-170001-) second series of pits (RO022-170003-) and linear features (RO022-170004-).
