The National Monuments Service's description
Marked only on the 1914 and 1927 eds of the OS 6-inch map, it is described as 'MacDermot's Fort' on the former. It is situated at the head of a little W-E valley on the NE-facing slope of Rathcroghan ridge. Subrectangular or D-shaped grass-covered platform (dims 35.8m NNE-SSW; 26.2m WNW-ESE) defined by scarps (H 0.6m at E to 1.8m at W), with slight traces of a fosse (Wth of base 2.6m) and a slight outer bank (Wth 3.5m; H 0.2m) at N. It is bisected by a NNE-SSW field wall, and the perimeter at the irregular W side might have been truncated. The field system (RO022-056031-) is immediately to the E. Rath (RO022-056029-) is c. 160m to the W and rectangular enclosure (RO022-056026-) is c. 170m to the NW. (Knox 1914a, 25-6; Herity 1983, fig. 37, Toberrory 5; Waddell 1983, 41, No. 44)
This is a National Monument in state ownership: No. 294.
