The National Monuments Service's description
Although indicated as a circular wooded feature on the 1837 and 1914 eds of the OS 6-inch map, this was first identified as a potential monument in an unpublished archaeological LiDAR report (Davis, 2015) commissioned by Roscommon County Council as part of the Environmental Impact Assessment for the N5 Ballaghaderreen - Scramoge road development. This feature is located towards the top of a SW-facing slope. It is a circular, grass-covered area (diam. 30m NW-SE; 28m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (at SW: Wth 3.9m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.95m) with mature deciduous trees and an outer, scrub-filled, fosse (at SW: Wth of top 3m; ext. D 0.3m). There is an entrance (Wth 2.2m) at E, and the fosse incorporates a pond at SE.
