The National Monuments Service's description
Marked as a circular copse on the 1837 and 1914 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a slight rise in a low-lying landscape. It is in full view of Mantua House, an Italinate mansion of the early 19th century now in ruins, c. 650m to the NNW. This is a circular area (diam. c. 75m) with mature deciduous trees and scrub defined by an earthen bank (at W: Wth 3.3m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.6m) and an outer fosse (at W: Wth of base 1.5m; D 0.8m). The wood has extended to a larger triangular area (dims c. 200m N-S; c. 180m E-W at S) with the tree-ring at its S edge.
