The National Monuments Service's description

Hawthorn bush known locally as 'St Kierans Bush' with rags attached for curative purposes located to the S of St Kierans church and graveyard (OF039-003001-). At the base of the bush there is a flagstone known as St Kierans Stone (OF039-005001-) with hollow depressions which according to local tradition that these are the kneeprints and handprints of St Kieran. One of the stations on the pattern held on St Kieran's day.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
