The National Monuments Service's description
On a slight rise in low-lying land with bog to the N and high ground to the S. Irregular shaped mound (H 1.5m; top diam. 7.5m max.) which has a central depression on top (probably the result of quarrying) enclosed by a wide flat bottomed fosse (Wth 2.5m; ext. D 1m) which has been widened in places and an external bank (Wth 3m; ext. H varies from 0.5m to 1.7m) with possible external berm at N.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
