Architectural fragment

The National Monuments Service's description

Halfway along the inner face of the E wall of the bawn of Kilcolgan castle there are several architectural limestone cut stone fragments belonging to the castle (OF015-011001-) which are lying on the ground at the butt of the bawn wall (OF015-011002-). Two of these fragments are the heads of two round headed single light windows of 17th centurydate. A third fragment appears to have come from the original fireplace and appears to be one of the arch stones of the fireplace with a convcave chamfer on the underside of the stone. A fourth fragment may have been a coping stone for a round shaped merlon from the battlements of the fortified house. A fifth and sixth fragment consist of a rectangular shaped cut limestone with a sunken panel one of which has a return at either end forming a possible greek fret pattern with adjoining cut stones. A seventh fragment consists of a limestone mullion of an unglazed window of 17th centurydate, this latter fragment lies on the ground in the modern outhouse built up against the inner face of the bawn wall on the E side of the castle, located off centre to N on the inner face of the E wall of the bawn.
