The National Monuments Service's description

Located on the W shoulder, but not the summit of an E-W drumlin ridge. This monument is depicted on McCrea’s Map of County Monaghan (1793). It is a subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 29m ENE-WSW; 25.5m NNW-SSE) defined by a furze-covered earthen bank (Wth 7-7.5m; int. H 0.5-1m; ext. H 1.7-2.2m) separated by an overgrown fosse (Wth of top 6.5-7m; Wth of base 1.5-2m; D 0.5-1.2m) from an outer bank (Wth 4.2-5.2m; ext. H 0.8-1.2m). There is a modern entrance through both banks at NE, but the entrance through the inner (Wth of base 1.6m) and outer (Wth of base 1.6m) banks at WSW with a causeway (Wth of top 4.5m; H 0.5m) is the original entrance. Small banks on either side of the causeway are probably secondary. There is a hollow (dims 6.3m NW-SE; 3m NE-SW; D 0.35m) inside the inner bank at NW, which may be modern, as might the evidence of stone facing to the inner face of the inner bank.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
