The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on the summit and at the centre of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. Two circular enclosures are depicted at Aghacloghan on McCrea’s map of Coounty Monaghan (1793), and this monument is depicted as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’ on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map, with a SSW-NNE lane truncating the perimeter slightly W-NW. Portion of the bank is incorporated into a field bank (at N: int. H 0.5m; ext. H 2m) NW-E (Chord c. 37m), with traces of a fosse at NE. Rath (MO028-057----) is c. 140m to the SE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
