The National Monuments Service's description
Located on the broad summit of a drumlin. It is depicted as an embanked circular feature (ext. diam. c. 35-40m) on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’ and as a hachured feature on the 1907 edition. This was described in 1967 as a grass-covered raised area defined by a slight scarp, with a fragment of the perimeter surviving in a scarp (H 1.6m) under a field bank at N. This had been removed by 1995 (OSAP) but the rise is still evident.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
