The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a SW-facing slope. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) is depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as a ‘fort’ in gothic lettering. This is a circular grass-covered area (int. diam. 25.8m N-S; c. 24m E-W) sloping down slightly to the SW defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 3m; int. H 0.1-0.2m; ext. H 1.2m) and hedge NE-S-SW and slight traces of a scarp elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or entrance. A single cup mark (diam. 0.15m; D 4cm) is visible on a lintel stone of a window in the SW wall of the derelict house standing immediately adjacent to the perimeter at NE.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
