The National Monuments Service's description
Located at the SE end of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. It is described as an ‘Ancient Burial Ground’ in gothic script on the 1835 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, but it has no known historical references. This is a raised rectangular grass-covered area (dims c. 75m NW-SE; c. 45m NE-SW) defined by a scarp and hedge that is probably stone-faced externally. Access is provided by steps and a gate towards the N end of the NE side. There are grave-markers and the few headstones date from c. 1780 to c. 1900. There is one mortuary enclosure for the Mc Ardelu family that has one headstone dated 1790. Apart from one wall (L 4m; Wth 1.2m; H 0.4m) c. 2m SE of this enclosure there are no other features.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
