The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a slight NNW-SSE ridge with rock outcrop in a relatively low-lying landscape between drumlins. This is a circular grass and scrub-covered area (diam. c. 33m NNE-SSW; c. 31m WNW-ESE) defined by an earthen bank (at NNW: Wth of base 2.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.9m) with some bushes SW-NNE that is reduced to a scarp NNE-SE. This is separated by a berm (at NNW: Wth 3.2m) from an outer bank (at NNW: Wth of base 2.7m; int. H 0.65m; ext. H 1m) and hedge SW-N that morphs into a ledge N-SE. There is an entrance through the inner (Wth of base 4.8m) and outer (Wth of base 2.9m) banks at NNE. The monument is truncated by an E-W field bank at S and the defining features are not visible S of this.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
