The National Monuments Service's description

Situated just SE of the summit of a drumlin. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 36.5m WNW-ESE; 35.5m NNE-SSW) with trees that has a natural rise in the NW quadrant. It is defined by a large earthen bank (Wth c. 5m; int. H 1-1.2m; ext. H c. 3.8-4.25m) and an outer water-logged fosse (Wth of base c. 2.2m; ext. D c. 1.4-2m), the outer edge of which is missing N-E. The fosse is surrounded by a farm lane E-SSW and a field bank SSW-W. The entrance (Wth of base 2m) and causeway (Wth of top 3.4m; H 1.2m) are at ENE.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
