The National Monuments Service's description
Located the tip of a W-E spur. This rath is depicted as an earthwork on McCrea’s map of County Monaghan (1793) and on the 1834 and 1907 editions of the OS 6-inch map. It is a subcircular grass-covered area (dims 50m NW-SE; 45m NE-SW) defined by a grass-covered earthen bank (at N: Wth of base 3.8m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 1.4m) with some bushes, and remnants of a fosse SE-S and at NW. The original entrance (Wth of base 4.4m) and causeway (Wth of top 2.3m; H 0.8m) are at ESE, and the perimeter is skirted by a road bank NW-NE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
