The National Monuments Service's description

Situated at the crest of a S-facing slope. It was described in 1967 as a large grass-covered area (diam. 51m E-W; 50m N-S) with apple trees that sloped down to the S and was defined by a scarp (at S: Wth 1.75m; H 1.8m) that melded into the slope NW-NE. At the centre was a slightly domed area (diam. 30m N-S; 29 E-W) defined by a slight fosse which was visible as a vegetation change and probably represented the inner fosse of a bivallate rath. By 1995 farm buildings had been built in the E part of the interior (OSAP).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
