The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in a hollow on a gentle W-facing slope. There is a local tradition that St Tigernach of Clones also founded a monastery at Templetate (IFC Schools’ MSS: 945, 151-2; 946, 58: https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes). There was a burial ground attached that was close to where a number of farm buildings are depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map. The graveyard was thought to have been used up until c. 1830, and the last person to have been buried there was named Brady. There was no evidence of a burial ground visible in 1946 (SMR file).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
