The National Monuments Service's description

Located on a slight N-S ridge. It is depicted as a circular feature (diam. c. 40m) defined by a field bank and described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’ on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map and as a curve in a field bank SSE-W-NNW on the 1907 edition. The curved field bank (Chord 49m) defined by an external scarp (H 1.8m) was extant in 1984 but had been removed by 1995 (OSAP), although it was known locally as a fort.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
