The National Monuments Service's description

Situated in a relatively low-lying position in an undulating landscape with drumlins. Archaeological testing (12E0068) in advance of an improvement of the N2 Monaghan to Emyvale road identified a burnt mound which was designated Drumgeeny 1 (O’Hara 2012a, 6) and fully resolved (12E0209) subsequently (O’Hara 2012c). It presented as a spread of broken and burnt stone (dims 7.8m E-W; 6.5m N-S; max. T 0.25m) overlying a shallow trough (dims 2.1m E-W; 1.9m N-S; max. D 0.2m) at its S edge which was filled with burnt mound material. The trough was cut by a larger pit (dims 5.5m N-S; 1.8m E-W; D 0.2m) on its N side. A sample of alder charcoal produced a C14 date of 3956 +- 30 BP (2514-2346 cal. BC
