The National Monuments Service's description
Located just off the E edge of a shelf towards the bottom of the E-facing slope of N-S drumlin ridge. This is a circular grass and scrub-covered area (diam. 33m) that slopes down to the E, which is planted with coniferous trees and defined by an earthen bank (at NNW: Wth of base 5m; Wth of top 1.7m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.5m). There are traces of an external fosse (Wth of top 4m; Wth of base 2.4m; ext. D 0.45m) NW-N, which is re-cut as a drain E-S-NW. There are several gaps in the bank; that at SSE with a causeway may be modern but the entrance (Wth of base 2.3m), now blocked, at NE may be original.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
