The National Monuments Service's description
This site is located in the industrial peatlands of Kinnegad Bog. It was first recorded in the 2013 Peatland Survey as a structure consisting of heavy roundwood and brushwood, exposed in section in the drain face and the opposing drain face. They were laid longitudinally, one to two elements deep (Bermingham 2014). The site laid within laminated Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum inclusions. On excavation in 2015 (licence 15E0175) it was interpreted to be a Road - Class 3 togher. It was dated to cal. 1664-1464 BC (UBA 26632).
A single cutting, measuring 3x2m, was opened for excavation. The site measured 0.42-1.35 in width and was exposed for 2.6m. It was composed of two heavy NW–SE orientated roundwoods (L1.4/2.22m, Diam. 0.06/0.11m) lying 0.24m apart, with split alder timber fragments (L0.39-0.6m, W0.05-0.14m, D0.03-0.05m) and associated smaller roundwood and brushwood elements located between them. A N-S oriented split timber (1.54x0.15x0.04m) was located at their E extent. The wood was generally in poor condition. Two toolmarked ends with multiple concave facets were noted.
