The National Monuments Service's description
This site is located in the industrial peatlands of Kinnegad Bog. It was first recorded in 2005 (Whitaker 2005), dated to 1569 ± 9 BC, and subsequently excavated at three locations in 2007 (Rohan 2008 and Rohan & Corcoran 2009). It was a single plank trackway consisting of split oak planks laid end-to-end, supported by short transverse elements with pegs and stakes securing the planks in place. The 2013 survey supported these findings and also suggested that the togher was possibly subjected to repair and/or extension (Bermingham 2014).
During the course of the 2013 field survey, a possible composite artefact was recorded at sighting ME-MOY001q, consisting of two pieces measuring 0.08m by 0.11m in section. Each piece was converted differently and they were identified as different wood species. There was a small lug or handle present on the object’s underside.
The location of the find spot was confirmed by GPS in 2015 (licence 15E0165). While the Road – Class 1 togher, ME-MOY001q sighting, remained extant it appeared that two further seasons of drain cutting had completely removed the artefact.
