The National Monuments Service's description

Archaeological investigations (07E0667) were undertaken at this site in 2007 (Halliday 2007). A series of trenches were excavated and revealed two burial grounds (ME042-033----; ME042-034----), a possible burnt mound (ME042-036----) and a possible prehistoric circular structure (ME042-037----) described by the excavator as follows: ‘Part of the remains of a circular structure was identified which was represented by a curvilinear ditch extending beyond both the eastern and western edges of the trench. The external diameter of the structure (as visible within the confines of the trench) measured 10.4m and a gap in the ditch was recorded, probably indicating an entrance for the structure. Within the confines of the ditch three postholes were recorded following the line of the ditch on its inside. Also noted within the interior of the ditch, seven probable stakeholes were identified along with part of the remains of a probable central hearth. The area was cleaned extensively and a scaled drawing was produced of the structure. The visible remains of this structure are considered to be of prehistoric dale and although no evidence was recorded of other structures it would not be impossible for other structures to be present between the excavated trenches.’ (Halliday 2007, 38 (6.45.3-4); Field 5: Trench 44). The location of this monument must be considered as approximate.
