The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a gently undulating landscape. A gradiometer survey (17R0082) by J. M. Leigh Surveys identified numerous potential archaeological features in an extensive area (c. 20 ha). Targeted archaeological testing (17E0354) by David Murphy of many of these proved that they are either natural or agricultural in origin (excavations.ie 2017:148). Two potential archaeological areas were identified and probed. At this location are two features. A band (Wth 3m; T 0.1-0.2m) of heat-shattered stone in matrix of black charcoal-rich clay and yellow clay is in a cut (D 0.5m plus). Just 2.5m to the SE was the N edge of a deposit of grey clayey silt with heat-shattered stone (dims 1.3m x 1.2m; max. T 0.12m) extending off to the SW. It is recommended that it be preserved in situ. (Murphy 2017, 54-7)
