The National Monuments Service's description
Identified by O'Kelly as Site L (O'Kelly 1978, 47). Situated some 60m W of main mound at Newgrange, this site, on excavation, was shown to be kerbed mound, between c. 22m and 24m in diam., containing a ruined cruciform passage-tomb, 11.75m long opening to the SSW; a limekiln had been constructed in the passage. A number of stones bear megalithic art. (O'Kelly et. al. 1978, 249-352).
See attached pdf file which shows contour plan of Site L, taken from O'Kelly et. al. (1978, 253) and jpeg file which shows Google Earth aerial photo taken 12 July 2013.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
