This house (House A) was identified in excavation connected with the conservation of Tomb 1C West. It was located c. 5m from the kerb and was sealed beneath a humus while the trench for the orthostats of the tomb cut its features. It was a rectangular area (ext. dims 4.8m plus NNW-SSE; 3.55m ENE-WSW) defined by a foundation trench (Wth c. 0.25m; D c. 0.2m) with a rounded corner at SW but its full length could not be recovered. In the limited area excavated there was no evidence of an occupation layer, an entrance or a hearth, but it had at least three internal post-holes. A pit located c. 1m from the SE corner is probably slightly earlier as it was sealed by a layer of brown earth and stones, although only a chord (dim. 2m x 0.6m; D 0.4m) of the pit could be excavated. Artefacts associated with it include fragments of at least five carinated bowls with expanded rims, an end scraper and four flakes as well as animal bones and cereal grains.
