The National Monuments Service's description

This habitation site is part of Eogan's Phase 1 Earlier 'Western' Neolithic Complex - Zone B (Eogan and Roche 1997, 17-20), which is provided with a start date of 3725-3635 cal. BC and an end date of 3650-3565 cal. BC or a round date of c. 3700-3550 cal. BC with the aid of Bayesian analysis (Eogan and Cleary 2017, 39-40; Schulting et al. 2017a). Earlier Western Neolithic material was found in four areas N and E of the great mound, Tomb 1C, and running beneath it. Zone B (dims 26m x 20m) is located outside the entrance to the E tomb. It contained sections of 4 slot-trenches (4-7) which may represent the foundations for at least one house. Trenches 4 and 5 were c. 5m apart with the remains of a hearth between them and they were partly under the mound of Tomb 1C. The area produced sherds of at least two vessels of Western Neolithic type and flints, including a leaf-shaped arrowhead. A sample of charcoal returned a radiocarbon date of 5345+- 20 bp (4324-4045 cal. BC). (Eogan and Roche 1997, 7, 17-21)
