The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a gate-pier on the N side of a road. It is marked on the 1836 and 1912 editions of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in italic lettering as a Stone Cross. It has a circular head with a Crucifixion on one face and a poorly preserved image on the other, which Cogan (1862-70, 325) describes as the Blessed Virgin Mary. The cross has been described by King (1984, 110-1) as:
Material: limestone. Dims: shaft H 0.55m; span 0.58m; dims 0.12m x c. 0.12m. Base: dims 0.52m x 0.56m; H 0.18m.
This is a disc-headed cross decorated in false relief set on a rough rectangular base. The W and E faces have figure sculpture. W: A Crucifixion in a recessed circular panel shows a bearded Christ, arms stretched vertically, head slightly bent to the right. E: The figure on the face si very badly damaged and cannot be identified. The form of this cross I s similar to Kilmore (ME043-028001-) c. 1575 but the carving is of much poorer quality. A date c. 1600 is suggested. (Crawford 1907, 238)

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
