The National Monuments Service's description

Situated on a rise at the outer edge of a shelf overlooking a steep slope down to Newcastle Lough that is c. 350m distant at the nearest point. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 37.5m WNW-ESE; 34m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 3.8-4m; int. H 0.6 at E to 1.1m at W; ext. H 1.2m at E to 1.6m at W) and hedge, with an outer fosse (at WNW: Wth of top 7m; Wth of base 3m; ext. D 0.5m) SE-W-NE. There is a modern entrance at E but the original entrance (Wth of base c. 2m), now blocked, is that at SE.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
