The National Monuments Service's description
Associated with a possible cashel (MA110-014001----).
Knox (1911, 302) recorded 'low banks of earth run north from the east and west ends [of the cashel], and turn to join and enclose a rectangular space of about 40 yards by 20 yards [c. 37m by 18m]. The banks, much broken down, are like common field banks…'. Knox interpreted these as part of a possible bailey extending to N of the cashel which he suggested was a small motte.
The banks noted by Knox are no longer evident. Slight surface undulations immediately to NW of the cashel hint at a possible field division or cultivation plot but this is very uncertain. Straight field boundaries/field walls, engulfed in overgrowth, extend roughly N−S and delimit the E, N and W sides of the modern rectilinear field, a space much larger than that specified by Knox; the E field boundary clips the outer edge of the cashel platform and clearly post-dates it.
