The National Monuments Service's description
Situated at the foot of the north-western slopes of Knocknaveen (known locally as ‘Glan Hill’) on the western bank of a mountain stream. It overlooks the W end of a small marshy basin. The house consists of an ovate area (NNW–SSE 5.40m, ENE–WSW 3.30m min.), partly dug into the hill foot. It is defined from SE through S to SW, 5m by an inward-facing scarp. From SW through W to N, a low and often indeterminate earthen bank forms its limits. No definite traces of the enclosing bank are visible on the eastern side, possible due to erosion by the stream. The interior slopes slightly to N and is featureless apart from a growth of rushes
The above description is derived from: New Survey of Clare Island. Volume 5: Archaeology. Edited by Paul Gosling, Conleth Manning and John Waddell. (Royal Irish Academy, Dublin. 2007). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.
