Ringfort - rath

In pasture, on a gentle NE-facing slope on a ridge, with the Glore River 190m to E. There are good views, most extensive to N−ESE overlooking the river valley.
Slightly raised circular area (41m E−W; 41.2m N−S) defined by an earthen scarp (H 1.65m at N, 1.8m at NE, 0.7m at S). The scarp is higher on the NE arc to compensate for the natural slope; it has a steep, quite vertical external slope and retains a slight narrow, internal lip which may be the result of incorporation into a later field boundary. At SE−W the scarp is rather low and dilapidated, and is quite broken down at SSE and at W.
To N of centre in the interior, there is a slightly raised semicircular feature (diam. 5.5-6m NW−SE) of uncertain significance, is defined by a scarp (H 0.8 at NE) curving NW−E, which coincides with the natural slope. A few stones protrude randomly around the edge.
The rath scarp is ringed with hawthorn and hazel trees. The interior is grassy, the surface uneven and poached by cattle. A road lies close to the SW side of the rath. There is a rath (MA071-171001-) 140m to NW.
