Barrow - ring-barrow

In pasture, located on a low rise in an area of rolling grassland, bordered 200m to N by the Deel River. Nephin Mountain is prominently visible to SSW and the Nephin Beg Range extends along the skyline to W.
This ringbarrow is not shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, but is shown on the 1922 edition. It consists of a circular area (diam. c. 10m) defined by a shallow fosse (Wth 1.2-1.4m) with an external bank (Wth 1.7m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.5m). The overall diameter (mid bank to mid bank) is 15-15.5m.
The bank was incorporated into a later field fences at W and N, but the fences since have been removed, leaving remnants of stone facing in parts on the external edge of the bank. There is a grassed-over depression (c. 10m N–S; c. 2-3m E–W), the result of past disturbance, immediately to W of the barrow, almost abutting the external edge of the bank.
This is the most north-easterly barrow in a cluster of ringbarrows, possible barrows and cairns. The other examples (MA038-050----; MA038-052----; MA038-053001- to MA038-053003-; MA038-146----) are located within 240-400m to WSW and SW. There is a possible ringcairn (MA038-054----) c. 550m to SW.
