Enclosure - large enclosure

The National Monuments Service's description

In improved pasture 45m E of possible ringfort (LI039-066----). Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a large circular-shaped enclosure. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as an oval-shaped area (dims. c. 83m NE-SW; 65m NW-SE) enclosed by a bank from NW-N-E reduced to a scarp elsewhere with external fosse. Truncated at W and SW by field boundaries and intersected from W-NW by field boundary running NE-SW. Westropp (1916-17, 21) refers to ‘two conjoined and two very close’ forts in Clogher-East. Surveyed by Henry A. Wheeler in 1970 prior to land reclamation works and described as consisting of a low platform enclosed by a low bank (ext. H 5' [1.5m]) and wet fosse (D 2'/0.6m; Wth 15' [5m]). Monument is visible as a low much degraded oval-shaped earthwork on aerial photograph (ASIAP (320) 3) taken 05/10/2002. Outline of large roughly circular shaped enclosure intersected at W by modern field boundary visible on Google Earth orthoimage dated 16/03/2016
