The National Monuments Service's description
On reclaimed intertidal marshlands, near the present bed of the River Shannon. Identified as a possible timber trackway which was uncovered during reclamation works along this portion of the river. Described along with the find of a Viking sword in 1958 as following; ‘trunks of oak trees laid flat in one direction, 16 feet [4.9m] under the surface (NMI Topographical Files, 1958). It has been suggested that it may have formed a causeway to Muckinish, further to N. Listed as ‘Cooperhill 1’ by O’ Sullivan (2001, 309) who described the site as following; 'An iron Viking Age sword was found on the S bank in 1958, at a depth of 16ft, on a substantial causeway of 'oak trunks all laid flat in one direction' beside a creek. The brief description of the findspot and the depth at which it was found suggests that this was a wooden trackway or boat-hard in a saltmarsh creek. (NMI files.) Not visited'.
