House - 17th century

The National Monuments Service's description

In level pasture c. 80m to the N of the Inny River. Described by Nicholas Dowdall in 1682 as 'on the North side of this river is Tineleeke, Englished the House of Broad Stone where was formerly an old castle [LF023-123002-], it is the Estate of Mr. John Sankey, whose father, Henry Sankey Esqr. did much improve & built a large house on it' (Gillespie and Moran 1991, 209). The present two-storey, L-shaped house, now derelict, appears to date to the early 18th-century but it may have been built on the site of or incorporate the earlier 17th-century house. A number of cut-stone fragments, with punch dressing of 17th-century date, are visible in the wall c. 7m to the E house and two chamfered jamb stones were reused in the 19th-century doorway in the wall c. 6m to its S. All of these fragments may be from the earlier house. Earthworks (LF023-122----) are evident in the field to the NW of the house, and a deer park (LF023-135----) may be associated.
