The National Monuments Service's description
This togher (L 11.2m min.; Wth 4.8m; D 0.34m), orientated E-W, was composed of roundwood (diam. 0.12-0.16m; L 1-5.4m), brushwood (diam. 0.02-0.04m) and twigs, and a small number of possible split timbers. At its E and W ends, the uppermost surface consisted of closely laid longitudinal roundwood, both over and underlain by transverse brushwood. In the central portion (L 2m) no surface of longitudinal roundwood occurred, although occasional transverse brushwood and roundwood were present. The wood was in very poor condition, woodworking was evidenced by occasional metal-cut toolmarks and poorly preserved possible split pieces. Wood species used included birch, alder, ash and apple-type. The togher lay 2.8m W of a structure (LF004-038----) and extended beyond the development footprint at its W end. Fragments of modern ceramics and glass were found in the topsoil directly above it. Radiocarbon dating revealed a date range of 390-160 cal BC (Wk-20957) (Moore and O’Connor 2009a, 38, EDC 37).
