The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a slight rise of rock outcrop on a W-facing slope. It is depicted as an oval embanked enclosure described as a ‘Fort’ only on the 1835 edition of the OS 6-inch map. A NW-SE field wall at SW truncates the outer elements of this cashel on this side and a N-S field wall truncates the outer features on the E side. This is a grass-covered circular area (int. diam. 23m WNW-ESE; 18.7m NNE-SSW) defined by the base of a stone wall (Wth 1.6-2.3m; int. H 0.1-0.4m; ext. H 0.4-1m) with an entrance (Wth 1.4m) and an external causeway (H 0.4m) at ESE. Outside the wall there is a berm (Wth c. 3m) bordered by a second wall (Wth 2.3-2.7m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.3-0.9m) W-NE and SSE-SSW. Outside this wall there is a berm (Wth 3.8m) defined by a scarp (Wth 3.3m; H 1m) WNW-NNE, but this feature cannot be identified elsewhere. There is a possible souterrain inside the inner enclosure at SW.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
