The National Monuments Service's description

In partially waterlogged pasture near a natural spring. Excavated in 2006 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford Road Improvement Scheme. A large burnt mound (c. 12m x 10m) containing a substantial partially stone-lined trough (4.7m N-S; 1.45m E-W; D 0.85m) with sloped sides and a hearth defined by rudimentary stone kerbing. The burnt mound had an associated pit (2.94m x 1.02m x 0.39m) to the SE and a second associated shallow trough (1.5m x 0.7m x 0.22m) to the W. A sample of hazel charcoal from the basal fill of the trough yielded calibrated radiocarbon dates of 1295-1059 cal BC. An upper deposit from the mound yielded a date of 160 cal BC – AD 20 (UBA-13997). (Nolan 2009, 254, no. 999; Jackman 2010)
