The National Monuments Service's description
At St Mary's parish church (KK019-026115-) in Kilkenny. A mid-16th-century chest tomb panel, probably a side panel, composed of fossiliferous limestone, depicting an archbishop figure sculpture. Hunt (1974, vol. 1, 197) describes it as, ‘a semi-circular headed niche with the figure of an archbishop holding a cross-staff in his left hand and blessing with his right. It is in the style of the O’Tunney workshop and although it has no decoration round the sides, it evidently formed part of a tomb-chest. Its date is mid-sixteenth century’. The panel was set into the 1804 wall connecting the SW side of the church with the graveyard wall. It was moved to its current location within the S transept of the church in 2015.
