The National Monuments Service's description

Medieval pits within the former walled burgage plot for 26 Patrick Street, situated to the rear of a mid-18th-century (NIAH 12001026) townhouse and the Kilkenny Theatre’s former location, where it stood between 1902 and 1962. Five pits (max dims 3.8m N-S, 1.8m E-W, D 1m) containing Highhays ware and Kilkenny-type medieval pottery and animal bones, and a possible fosse (Wth 0.9m x D 0.7m) were excavated by Jacinta Kiely ( 99E0165) in advance of a development to the rear of the house (Kiely 1999 unpublished; 2000, 148). The foundations for a post-medieval building were also noted in the excavation. Whilst the site was fully excavated further archaeology relating to the former burgage plot may extend beyond the excavation area to the W.
