The National Monuments Service's description

A series of medieval pits and stakeholes sealed by possible flood deposits below the Vicar’s Choral building (KK019-026120-) at 15-16 Vicar Street, Kilkenny City. The features were recorded during archaeological excavation by Catherine McLoughlin undertaken prior to the development of the Kilkenny Inn Hotel and following an initial assessment by John Tierney (Eachtra Archaeological Projects) (licenses 03E0707, 03E1901; Tierney 2003, unpublished; 2006, 275; McLoughlin 2004, unpublished; 2007, 221; Stafford 2007, 221-2). Archaeological excavation in the area of the new hotel’s basement revealed a series of medieval pits and stake-holes overlain by layers of possible flood deposits. The features were preserved in situ beneath the surface carpark.
