The National Monuments Service's description
E of the 19th-century coach house (NIAH 12003013) of the former Bishop’s Palace (KK019-026123-) and 18m E of the E gable of the chancel of the medieval cathedral of St. Canice (KK019-026029-). A possible medieval structure represented by a posthole and a pit recorded by Cóilín Ó Drisceoil during archaeological test excavations (09E0457) (Ó Drisceoil 2010, unpublished; 2013, 134). Both features were sealed by a deposit of garden soil that contained a sherd of 13th/14th century Kilkenny-type pottery. This probable medieval garden soil underlay a series of dumps of rubble and soil that represent various attempts between the 13th and 19th centuries to reduce a steep slope to Vicar Street in the E and allow for landscaping of the area. The possible structure remains in situ below the newly constructed extension to the coach house.
