The National Monuments Service's description
Formerly located at Tullaroan church (KK018-032001-), Co. Kilkenny, currently unlocated. A floor slab commemorating James Grace, son of Baron Grace, and wife Ellis. This unusual tapering 16th-century graveslab was divided into three panels, the uppermost depicting a large Calvary with a crown of thorns and symbols of the Passion on either side, the centre panel has a depiction of the Virgin and Child in raised relief and the lower panel has a shield with a lion rampant. There is a margin inscription which begins in the upper dexter corner and runs around the entire slab, ending with the date 1543. (see Cockerham and Harris 2001, 154, 156-7, 183, Pl. 10 for description and illustration from Grace 1823) Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 495) mentions that this slab is described in the Memoir of the Family of Grace published in 1818, but could not now be found and he gives the inscription as, 'Hic jacent corpora iacobi qras quondam de Corstown, baronis Gras filii, et Ellis uxoris ejus, qui quidem Jacobus obit ultimo die Augusti ano. dni. mcccccxlii, et dicta Ellis obiit tricesimo die decb'is a. di mccccxliii'.
