The National Monuments Service's description
Inserted into the N parapet of a two-arch bridge (KK014-014----) across the Dinin River, providing access to Jenkinstown House demesne. A rectangular limestone plaque with a latin inscription in raised Roman capitals. The inscription was transcribed by Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 206) as, 'PATRICIVS DOWLYE SVIS EXPENSIS HVNC PONTEM EXTRVXIT ANNO DNI 1647 AETERNAM ILLI VXORI AC LIBERIS REQVIEM PRECARE VIATOR' and translated by Hoyne (1966, 40) as, 'Patrick Dowlye erected this bridge at his own expense, AD. 1647. Pray for the Eternal Rest for him, for his wife and for his children'.
