The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, to the W of a stream, on the SW-facing slope of Knockanoughanish Mountain. An area of burnt stones together with a wooden trough, which was preserved in blanket bog, were discovered in the course of drainage work. The drain has since been filled in and the timbers have been retained by the landowner. The timbers consist of two large rectangular pieces and five smaller assorted pieces. The larger timbers measure (a) L 0.9m; Wth 0.34m; T 0.08m and (b) L 0.8m; Wth 0.17m; T 0.09m. These large timbers appear to have been cut from the outer part of a tree as one face of each is slightly curved.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
